For Sam, getting his diploma wasn’t an easy journey. He had to redefine his study methods due to the learning curve he faced. Nevertheless, Sam’s tireless efforts paid off, as seen by his graduation with a Summa Cum Laude degree. Sam’s college experience was unique because he was surrounded by peers half his age. He utilized the age difference as a springboard to build relationships rather than allowing it to become a barrier. His daily objective was to start a discussion with a new student and find out about their hopes and dreams. As evidenced by the congrats he received at his graduation ceremony, this project sparked many profound connections.

Reflecting on the beginning of his academic journey, Sam fondly recalls, “I pulled off because it seemed like my car had developed automatic steering.” I was registered for the fall semester five minutes later.” Four years after he began at the age of 68 with a passion for scriptwriting, he stood as a proud graduate. Rather from being a barrier, aging should always be an opportunity to discover new things. The world is your oyster, whether you want to start painting in your forties, learn to rollerblade in your thirties, or, like Sam, go full bore into academia in your late sixties.
