Anderson Cooper, the 54-year-old CNN anchor, never thought he’d become a father when he was a child. Reflecting on his younger years, he revealed that being gay made him believe he would never have the chance to have children. Fast forward 40 years, and Cooper is now the proud father of two sons.
In April 2020, Cooper welcomed his first son, Wyatt Morgan, into the world. Wyatt’s name is a tribute to Cooper’s late father, Wyatt Emory Cooper, and the family name Morgan, which was considered for Cooper himself. Despite his initial lack of confidence in his parenting skills, Cooper expressed his love for everything about being a father.
Cooper bought parenting books before Wyatt was born, intending to read them. He did, however, laughably acknowledge that he never really read any of them on Ellen DeGeneres’ EllenTube. In spite of his doubts, Cooper enjoyed being a parent and was grateful for Benjamin Maisani, his ex-partner and co-parent, for his support.
Cooper later surprised his audience on Anderson Cooper 360 by announcing the arrival of another child, Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper. Sebastian, born healthy and happy, joined the family, and Maisani was in the process of adopting Wyatt. Cooper shared that Maisani, despite being his ex, is his best friend and an excellent co-parent.
Cooper found being a first-time dad challenging, however, now that he has a second child, he feels more at ease. He intends to take a few days off from work to cherish his time with his sons.
