The family shares the couch to keep their old dog company when they sleep.

As dogs grow older, they slow down a bit, but we try hard to keep them happy and comfy in their later years. There’s this family, though, that did something super special for their old dog, Spike.

Spike is a 14-year-old English Springer Spaniel. He’s not as bouncy as he used to be, especially after a second stroke that made stairs tricky for him. Sadly, this meant Spike couldn’t do one of his favorite things: sleep in bed with his family, something he’s loved since he was a little pup.

Their bedroom was upstairs, so Spike couldn’t make it up there anymore. He tried, but it got tough for him. So, his family had to block off the stairs to keep him safe. But here’s the sweet part: if Spike couldn’t come up, his family decided to go down and sleep with him! They took turns setting up a cozy couch downstairs, making sure Spike wasn’t lonely.

Catherine, Spike’s owner, came back from university and found her parents doing this. It didn’t surprise her, they’ve always been super close to Spike. Her dad even has a cute nickname for him, calling him the “old bean,” and they’re always chatting.

Spike’s family goes the extra mile. Catherine’s dad brings Spike water, food, and feeds him by hand to make sure he gets his medicine and stays strong.

Even though Spike isn’t the energetic pup he once was, one thing remains unchanged: his family’s love. With their kind act, they’re showing that they’ll do whatever it takes to make Spike’s final years awesome.

“We love our old boy so much and are so glad to have him in our lives,” Catherine shared. “Hopefully, we’ve made up for his not-so-good start in life by giving him all the love in the world.”

It’s incredible how far people go to make their dogs happy. A big thank you to this family for taking such good care of their old friend, Spike.
