Larry, a former soldier in his own right. He served in the military to defend his nation, but upon returning home, he faced hardships. Life was difficult for Larry, he didn’t have enough money for groceries.
Something incredible happened one day while Larry and his friend Stephanie, who was also a veteran and disabled, were at the grocery store. Dave, a man, commanded a squad known as the Surprise Squad, and they arrived at the store. They paid for people’s groceries because they were there to support them.
With hardly enough money left over to buy food for her dogs and herself, Stephanie was worried. But she didn’t need to worry, Dave and the Surprise Squad would take care of it, they assured her. Stephanie was overjoyed and appreciative of their generosity.
Larry explained to the Surprise Squad how he founded a club to support fellow soldiers going through similar hardships. Like his buddies who had died because they had not enough to survive, he didn’t want anyone else to suffer.
Larry’s story touched an emotional note with Surprise Squad captain Dave. He insisted on paying for Larry’s groceries as well because he understood that Larry had heroically served his nation.
”You served us, now its our turn to serve you” David said to Larry
Larry found it hard to believe. He only intended to buy some chocolates and dish soap, but suddenly he could choose anything he wanted from the store. When the $278 total was announced, Larry was delighted. As Dave and the others paid for his groceries, tears welled up in his eyes.
“It’s just so overwhelming”
Larry said. “I’ve been taking care of myself since I was 13 years old.”
Larry and Stephanie returned home with full shopping carts and hearts full of gratitude thanks to the assistance of the Surprise Squad. They knew that even in tough times, there are people who care and are willing to help. And that made all the difference.
